The PSOE requires the regional government to invest in the archaeological site of Los Banos de Fortuna (23/02/2018)

The spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group and deputy secretary general of the PSRM-PSOE, Joaquín López, has demanded that the regional government "with the pyrrhic budget" that it has allocated to cultural heritage, invest in places such as the Roman deposit of the Baños de Fortuna, which will give added value to the cultural and health tourism of the municipality, and also, connect the baths with the town center through a bike path.

"Not to exploit this heritage is to waste opportunities for the Region of Murcia in terms of job creation and wealth, and that is why we are going to help the City of Fortuna to demand investments that will allow us to excavate and restore what was a European benchmark of Roman spas. It consists of sanctuary, hospedería and bathrooms, "he said.

Likewise, Lopez has denounced that the regional government makes leave with its policies of inaction to take advantage of the tourist and economic value that Murcia municipalities have.

"It is incredible that this site is unprotected and that the Government has turned a deaf ear to the demands of the City Council and the Socialist Parliamentary Group to put it in value," he said.

According to López, Fortuna is a municipality that has many potentialities, "such as the formation of a tourist area and a natural environment with its spa and the existence of this Roman site, which is spectacular."

In addition, the socialist spokesman has stressed the importance of building the bike lane between Fortuna and Banos de Fortuna, which is still running, despite having a budget of 200,000 euros for several years.

It has also influenced the need to build the roundabouts that connect with the Reina Sofía center and the football field to achieve greater security and fluidity.

For his part, the mayor of Fortuna, José Enrique Gil, has assured that the City Council is vindicating with great interest the archaeological actions in this important Roman site, which can become one of the engines of Fortuna's economy ".

According to Gil, the Roman site will make tourism grow, so Fortuna companies will be improved.

"We want to vindicate how important this investment will be for our municipality, which undoubtedly needs European, national and regional funds."
