The Local Government Board again asks for the removal of asbestos from the cover of the Vicente Aleixandre School (20/04/2018)

The Mayor of Fortuna considers that the removal of asbestos from the school is an urgent priority in the face of the respiratory risk generated by this material

Among the different decisions adopted at the meeting held by the Local Government Board in the morning highlights a new request in writing to the Ministry of Education to address the urgent elimination of asbestos cover in the CEIP Vicente Aleixandre replacing it with new materials that do not create a risk to the health of students and teachers.

This new application has been promoted in the absence of a response from the Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, returning to transfer the need for its disposal by attaching the written and valued report made by the municipal technical office to speed up the de-escalation procedures of the school's cover.

The letter also includes the repeated requests addressed by the City of Fortuna in this regard during the last three years, which began in the visit of the then Minister of Education Mª Isabel Sánchez-Mora to the City Council on September 11, 2015, followed subsequently with a letter with registration of departure on September 6, 2016, reiterated in the new visit of the previous Councilor to the City of Fortuna in January 2017 and also in the meeting of the current Director General of Educational Centers, Mª Remedios Lajara, IES Santa María de los Baños at the beginning of this year, sending an e-mail of all the information to the same Directorate General weeks later.

The mayor of Fortuna, José Enrique Gil, has justified this new request by understanding that "for the Governing Board the prevention and health of the students and professionals who daily attend the Vicente Aleixandre School are a matter of real priority. European that point to the immediate elimination of this material that has respiratory risks for those fibers that remain in suspension in the air, and we believe that it is time to address this change of coverage with anticipation of the completion of these works during the school holidays summer, since it is three years that we have been claiming it and the Ministry of Education must provide a solution as soon as possible.
