Meeting with FAMDIF and ONCE to develop the accessibility and the adapted paths in the imminent project of the recreational area of ​​Fuente La Higuera (07/06/2018)

The mayor intends with this investment to become a reference for accessibility to this natural environment and for this technical aspects have been addressed to improve the project with the Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disability and the ONCE

With 15% of the Improvement Fund, in addition to the restoration of the recreational area of ​​Fuente La Higuera, trails will be valued, the landscape areas in the municipal mountains and the Sierra de La Pila, and will be provided with better signage

This morning a meeting was held in Murcia between the City of Fortuna and representatives of the Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and Organizational Disability (FAMDIF) and the National Organization of the Spanish Blind (ONCE) to address technically the equipment , improvements and technical issues to take into account to develop the optimal accessibility in the integral restoration of the recreational area of ​​Fuente la Higuera.

The Fuente de Higuera is one of the flagship projects within this investment package in the public forests of the municipality through 15% of the Improvement Fund in compensation to the public forests of Fortuna for the quarries installed in our municipal area and whose performances will be around € 700,000 to transform and improve the natural environment of Fortuna.

The objective of this investment is the complete restoration of the set of barbecues, the source, the paths and the whole environment of this recreational area under a criterion of environmental care and adaptation of the environment for the practice of active tourism

The Mayor of the City of Fortuna, Jos Enrique Gil Carrillo, together with the Councilor for Forestry, Jos Antonio Toral and the Forestry Engineer, Esteban Jordn, wanted to take ideas, approaches and technical issues for accessibility with the president of FAMDIF, Carmen Gil, the delegate of ONCE Juan Carlos Morejn de Girn-Bascuana, the OTAF's architect, Diego Mayordomo, the coordinator of the Accessibility Commission, Emilio Cano;

as well as Joaqun Cobarro, member of the Accessibility Commission and the Management Board of the Sierra de la Pila Regional Park.

The meeting held at the headquarters of FAMDIF has been very productive to incorporate the most advanced equipment adapted to people with disabilities so that the imminent actions for public use in the public forests of Fortuna and especially the Recreational Area "Fuente la Higuera" in Sierra de la Pila, be a reference in accessibility so that all people can enjoy natural sports and active tourism.

The City Council has requested advice on accessibility from the technical office of the OTAF Technical Accessibility Office to develop a fully accessible area.

Through this project a collaboration with the City of Fortuna is opened to achieve a municipality accessible to all.

The mayor of Fortuna, Jos Enrique Gil, told the meeting participants that "the objective we set is to transform the public and natural spaces of our municipality and provide them with the greatest accessibility so that they can be enjoyed by all people. We want to make Fortuna a benchmark for active, thermal and natural tourism throughout the Spanish Levante and with this 15% of the Improvement Fund that corresponds to Fortuna for the compensatory issue of the quarries, we will make the best heritage and landscape integration of our spectacular natural environments throughout this year 2018. "
